These volunteers were provided questionnaires asking about their free time activities. A national register was used to record 1082 cases of Type 2 diabetes identified during the duration of the study. Those individuals with the highest amounts of activity had the lowest risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Twins with increased degrees of activity had lower chances of diabetes than the twin of theirs with lower levels of physical exercise.
